Every successful Teamship experience begins with a coach. Coaches are the steady hands guiding student teams through ambiguity, encouraging them to lean into collaboration, and challenging them to think critically about real-world problems. This summer, 27 educators embarked on going through the rigorous Coaching Institute.
Through the Coaching Institute, teachers and administrators from across states are trained in the District C philosophy. They learn not by sitting through lectures, but by experiencing Teamship themselves. They practice coaching techniques, receive feedback, and discover the joy of seeing students unlock “aha” moments in real time.
What makes these coaches special is not just their professional expertise, but their willingness to shift roles. In Teamship, the coach is not the expert with all the answers. Instead, they are a facilitator who helps students navigate complexity and find their own solutions. It’s a mindset shift that requires humility, patience, and a deep belief in the potential of young people.
As these coaches prepare to facilitate Teamship at their schools, they bring with them not just a new set of tools, but a new way of thinking about teaching and learning. We’re excited to see what their students will accomplish in the months ahead and grateful to these leaders for stepping into the role of coach.
